...no you can't beat a trip to the City Ground. I've been a 'Tricky' since my days at Bowbridge Road Junior School in Newark back in the 60's. My first match was 6th January 1968 v Man City, we lost 3-0 , but I was hooked and have followed 'The Reds' through thick and thin ever since!

Nobody who followed the Forest during the wilderness years under the reign of Matt Gillies and Alan Brown could have dreamt what was in store for us, floundering in the doldrums of the old Division 2, gates of around 6-7,000 and going now where fast. More than a few eyebrows were raised when the commitee gave ex 'sheep shagger' Brian 'old big head' Clough the job of rescuing us and putting us back in the top flight. One of his first matches in charge saw us beat Spurs away in a Cup Replay, this was just a taster for what was in store over the coming years.Promotion back to the old first division in his first full season and what happened after that was nothing short of a miracle. League Champions and League Cup winners by the end of our first season back, the only defeat suffered was away at Arsenal, a run which saw us go unbeaten for 42 league games and 50 games in total. Any doubts about Cloughie were well and truly forgotten as he was crowned the King of the City Ground and he and Peter Taylor took us on the biggest adventure in the clubs history, the European Cup.

Not in our wildest dreams did we ever dare think that one day we would win the European Cup. Only two seasons after gaining promotion by the skin of our teeth from the old Division 2 we set off from Nottingham train station on a sunny May morning to travel to Munich and witness what is probably still the clubs biggest acheivement, winning the European Cup. I'll always remember being on the docks at Dover with 1,000's of Forest fans singing 'She wore a Scarlet Ribbon' it still brings me out in goose bumps!

The trip to Munich is probably the biggest highlight of my years following Forest, the welcome we got at Folkestone on our return was fantastic, it was as if we'd been away to war and come home victorious. Over 20,000 Forest fans made the trip to Munich and although there were high spirits there was no trouble. We even took time out to play football with some Malmo supporters in a park, a memorable trip indeed, one I'll never forget.

Like the memories, the photo's are fading as well, from left to right, having a beer or two before the match, a young Robbo posing, Dave and Alan inside the ground, me inside the ground (you can tell Alan had been on the beer, he's just about cut my head off both photo's)
